About

Yuki Nakamura is a Japanese-born artist based in London, whose practice is deeply rooted in clay and ceramic art. Incorporating mixed media, site-specific installations, and digital innovation, she expands the possibilities of ceramics to create immersive, interactive works that challenge traditional boundaries and engage with materiality in contemporary contexts.

She has received numerous awards, including the Pollock-Krasner Grant, the Artist Trust Fellowship, and the Joshibi Creative and Research Fellowship. Yuki holds a BFA from Joshibi University of Art and Design (Japan), an MFA from the University of Washington (USA), and an MRes in Creative Practice from the University of Westminster (UK), where she explored the tactile and material agency of clay.

Her recent research project, Clay as Collaborator, examined the sensory and participatory potential of clay. Her current work investigates the intersection of clay and digital media, deepening sensory engagement across physical and virtual environments.

Yuki is a current PhD student at the University of Westminster’s CREAM (Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media) and the Ceramic Research Centre, continuing to develop her practice at the intersection of materiality, collaboration, and innovation.

Yuki is a member of the international artist collective ART BEASTIES, curating and exhibiting in New York, Seattle, Tokyo, and Kobe. She teaches ceramics at Morley College in London and is a contributing writer for Design Stories, a Paris-based Japanese online magazine.
