Embodied Clay

Embodied Clay: Exploring Intuitive Performance is an artistic exploration that investigates the interplay between clay, intuitive performance, and embodied creativity. This aspect of my research delves into how physical interaction shapes the creative process, focusing on how artists use their bodies to intuitively inform their work. It highlights how embodied actions contribute to the spontaneous and instinctive aspects of artistic creation. In April 2024, during the second term of my MRes program, I specifically went outside to engage with nature and encourage a response to my actions that would be reflected in my work with clay. During these walks, I spontaneously created artworks inspired by ideas that came to me in the moment while walking, producing flexible and organic forms that harmonize with nature. This approach emphasizes process and time. For example, I embedded clay into tree bark to resemble a map, scattered porcelain like cherry blossoms, and connected tree branches with hand-twisted coils.
